Large Cents 1794 1C Head of 1794, Bent Lock, S-22, B-6, R.1, MS65+ Brown PCGS. CAC. Chestnut, chocolate, and steel-brown hues meld to create a gorgeous patina. Strong flowlines in the fields on both sides are as-made and are the product of worn dies. Both sides are fully-detailed, with far more definition present on the uppermost curls than on the average example of this issue.      The PCGS census lists this coin as the finest known example, followed by the MS64+ Brown PCGS Hays-Steigerwalt specimen, the MS63 Brown PCGS Smith-Naftzger example, and the MS63 Brown PCGS Anderson Dupont coin. It exhibits stronger detail on the high points than the Hays-Steigerwalt piece, suggesting that it has claims to finest known status. Ex: Bowers and Merena (9/1986), lot 393; Mid-American (1/1988), lot 51; Thomas D. Reynolds (1997); Walter J. Husak.
